- Summary
- We mourn the loss of author, activist, historian and beloved folk hero Howard Zinn, who has been an integral part of the First Run legacy for many years. Howard lent his support to many first run films (many of which he appeared in), the most recent being the Oscar-nominated The most dangerous man in america: Daniel Ellsberg and the Pentagon papers. Howard hid copies of the Pentagon papers for Ellsberg, and he later served as an expert witness for the defense at Ellsberg's trial. In his recollections of Zinn, Ellsberg writes that his friend is the best human being I've ever known [and] the best example of what a human can be. We invite you to learn more about this remarkable man through this new commemorative edition of our best-selling video, featuring over an hour of new bonus materials. This acclaimed film looks at the amazing life of the renowned historian, activist and author. Following his early days as a shipyard labor organizer and bombardier in World War II, Zinn became an academic rebel and leader of civil disobedience in a time of institutionalized racism and war. His influential writings shine light on and bring voice to factory workers, immigrant laborers, African Americans, Native Americans and the working poor. Featuring rare archival materials and interviews with Zinn and colleagues such as Noam Chomsky, You can't be neutral on a moving train captures the essence of this extraordinary man who has been a catalyst for progressive change for more than 60 years. Narrated by Matt Damon. Featuring music by Pearl Jam, Woody Guthrie & Billy Bragg
